A general data mining classification where the tool performs with minimal input by an analyst. For example, neural networks operate relatively unsupervised. After the dependent variable and potential independent variables are selected, the tool determines a model that fits the data. In comparison, standard regression analysis requires experience and knowledge to guide the selection of the final model.
